Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Takeda Shida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Santiago Santos!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Shida tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Santos doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Santos pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Santos throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Shida counters with a stiff right hand.
Shida throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Santos throws a right hand that misses
and Shida counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Santiago Santos has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shida misses with a hook.

Shida lands a head kick!
Shida avoids the head kick by Santos.
Shida appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Santos doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Shida throws a hook to the side of Santos's head but Santos sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
It seemed like Santos was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Santos steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Shida.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Santos! But no joy.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Santos tries to land a body kick
and Shida counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Santos throws out a loose jab but Shida uses good head movement to avoid it.
Shida misses with a looping right.
Santos looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Santos throws a body kick that misses.
It looked like Shida was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Santos.
Shida connects with a solid leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Santos lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Santos doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Shida just misses with a punch to the body.
Santos is looking to chop away at Shida's legs.
Santos misses with a double jab.
Shida throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Santos follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Santos misses with the body kick
and Shida cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That has opened up Santiago Santos's cut even more.

Shida tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Santos was well out of range. Poor timing from Shida.
Shida throws a push kick but Santos slaps the foot to one side.
It seemed like Santos was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Santos takes a kick to the side of the head.
Santos stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Shida.
Shida tries a low kick but Santos avoids it.
Santos moves forwards but Shida connects with a nice, crisp jab.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Takeda Shida dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Santiago Santos's cut.
That's time! Shida's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Shida dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Santos.
Santos throws out a loose jab but Shida uses good head movement to avoid it.
Shida swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Shida misses with a body kick.
Shida looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A decent looking cross lands there for Santos.

It looks like Takeda Shida has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santos throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Shida digs a good body shot into Santos's ribs.

Santos on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Shida tries a head kick but it misses.
Shida blocks a head kick by Santos.
Santos with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Shida to score with a decent uppercut.
Shida throws a head kick but Santos moves out of range.
Santos appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Santos misses with a hook
and Shida counters with a nice uppercut.

The cut above Santiago Santos's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Shida fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Santos tries to clinch but Shida moves away
and Shida counters with a solid body kick.
Shida takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Shida is looking to counter punch.
Santos throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shida lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Shida cracks Santos with an open hand slap.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shida avoids a kick to the body.
And Shida counters with a quick kick to the body but Santos blocks it.
Takeda Shida is winning the standup battle so far.
Shida throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Shida lands with a slapping head kick.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Santiago Santos's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Takeda Shida!
Takeda Shida seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
