Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Flo Holl (ranked 1289 p4p, 1919 weight class) and Sonny Barella (ranked 105 p4p, 144 weight class). Barella has chosen Prova del 9 as his entrance music. Flo Holl has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 2, fighting out of London, Flo Holl!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 26 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Sonny Barella!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paulsen Ambrosius and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holl connects with an inside leg kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Holl.
Holl with a jab.
A nice leg kick lands there from Holl.
Holl has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Holl lands with a right hand.
An inside leg kick lands from Holl.
An inside leg kick from Holl misses.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Holl, as that shot connected.
Holl is looking to slow Barella down with leg kicks.
Holl is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Holl stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Barella.
Barella throws a front kick aimed at Holl's knee but Holl avoids it well.
Nice defenses there by Barella.
Barella takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Holl waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Barella.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Barella has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Barella fails with the takedown.

Holl closes the distance looking to clinch
and Barella counters with a left and a right that stings Holl.
Flo Holl seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Holl moves out of range of the leg kick from Barella.
Holl paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Holl stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Barella throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Holl lands with a hook. Barella tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Barella misses with a low kick.
Barella circles away from the clinch attempt.
Holl lands a glancing blow to the side of Barella's head.
Holl is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Holl is looking to clinch.

Barella shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Barella was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Holl is trying to improve his position.

Holl regains half guard.
Barella lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Barella is trying to work for a kimura but Holl is defending well.

Barella seems to be working for a kimura but Holl defends the submission attempt.
Holl controlling the position well.
Holl has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holl's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Barella not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Barella is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Holl is looking for a sweep. Barella is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Barella is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Holl defends it well.
Barella is thwarting Holl's attempts to control the position.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Flo Holl will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Barella tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Holl connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Holl throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Barella tries to counter with a clinch but Holl shakes him off and moves away.
Nice straight punches there by Holl. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Holl.
Sonny Barella is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Holl lands an overhand right.
Barella thuds a left hand into Holl's body.

Barella shoots in and gets a takedown into Holl's guard.
Barella won't allow Holl to sweep him here.
Barella postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Barella trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Barella has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Barella has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Holl is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Holl turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Holl darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Flo Holl is winning the standup battle so far.
Holl connects with a high kick.
It looks like Holl has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Holl throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Barella changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Holl connects with a single shot there.
Barella keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Holl.
Barella is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
A good leg kick by Holl.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Barella is defended easily by Holl.

Holl has managed to clinch.
Barella tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Holl smiles and moves away.
Holl throws a lazy uppercut

and Barella moves into the clinch.
Barella looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Barella fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Flo Holl has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sonny Barella.
Barella takes an elbow to the forehead.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Holl lands an elbow inside.
Barella is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Holl pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Holl misses with a punch to the body.
Holl throws an elbow that misses.
Barella blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Holl tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Holl misses with a knee strike.
Holl lands with a short shot to the head.

Barella pulls guard.

Barella looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Barella is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Barella has an active guard here but Holl has managed to pass into half guard.

Holl tries to pass the half guard into mount. Barella knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Barella has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Holl is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Barella slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Holl got a little sloppy there for a moment and Barella has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Holl has managed to get both his arms back between Barella's legs - danger averted.
Holl is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Barella throws a leg kick but Holl checks it.
Holl tries to close the distance and clinch but Barella swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Barella is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Barella looking to score a takedown here. Holl is defending well but Barella drives through and ends up in Holl's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barella stands up over Holl, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Holl will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barella accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Barella slips a nice elbow through Holl's hands, connecting with Holl's forehead.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sonny Barella comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Holl has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Flo Holl thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
