With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ruslan Rzayev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Markus! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Paul Tew and William Gold.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rzayev misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Markus throws out a loose jab but Rzayev uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rzayev shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Markus's guard. Rzayev working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Markus's head. Rzayev trying to control the position from guard on top but Markus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rzayev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rzayev throwing strikes from guard but Markus blocks nicely. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rzayev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Rzayev is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Rzayev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Rzayev lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Markus is rocked! Markus can't keep his opponent in guard - Rzayev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Markus is still in real trouble! Can Rzayev finish him? Rzayev winds up and cracks Markus with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Still in half guard, Rzayev seems content to control. Markus tries to get to full guard but Rzayev has control of the leg. Markus seems to have recovered his senses.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Markus has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rzayev is working away from the top position though. Rzayev is trying to control the action in half guard but Markus is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Rzayev trying to advance position but Markus counters by regaining guard. Markus is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rzayev's corner. There ya go! There ya go! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rzayev content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rzayev scoring with punches to the head and body. And that is the end of the round. Rzayev tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Markus swivels and escapes. Rzayev is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Markus can do to turn this around?

Markus waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rzayev. Rzayev misses with a takedown attempt - Markus sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Rzayev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Markus pinned against the cage. Markus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Rzayev shoots in and bounces Markus off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Markus manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rzayev manages to get himself to full guard.

My spies in Roosters Coop inform me that Markus has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!  The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Volkov connects with a single shot there. A left lands for Magomedov. Volkov slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. A looping hook to the body misses from Volkov. Magomedov does a little dance to reset his feet. The fighters circle momentarily. Volkov darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Volkov looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Magomedov throws a hook but Volkov blocks it. Volkov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Magomedov.
Magomedov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Volkov's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Magomedov postures up.
Magomedov has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Volkov to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Magomedov is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Volkov pulls down on the head and he's put Magomedov to sleep! This one is all over!
