The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Banner misses.
Whitaker misses with an uppercut
and Banner counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Banner just misses with a punch to the body.
Whitaker looks to land a body kick but Banner moved away.
An attempted straight right counter from Banner misses the target.
Whitaker connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Banner 's hands.
Whitaker moves out of range as Banner strikes.
Whitaker throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Banner throws a big counter combination but Whitaker scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Banner comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Banner is pawing at Whitaker , trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Whitaker 's nose. Whitaker is badly hurt! Banner pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Whitaker tries desperately to hold on but Banner is relentless in his assault! As Whitaker receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Banner away and this one is in the books!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lamont Banner !
An out of breath Lamont Banner thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
