PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quinten Rain (ranked 4806 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Emelianenko (ranked 6565 p4p, 477 weight class). Rain comes to the cage accompanied by Eye of the storm.. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Konstantin Menshow and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rain stuffs the takedown.

Emelianenko rushes Rain and presses him up against the cage.
Rain tries to pull guard but Emelianenko holds him up against the cage and eventually Rain drops back down to his feet.

Emelianenko is working an open guard so Rain takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Rain tries to clinch up.
Alexander Emelianenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Emelianenko tries to close the distance and clinch but Rain swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rain sprawls well. Rain wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Emelianenko gets slowly back to his feet.

Rain gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rain tries to pull guard but Emelianenko won't allow it.

Emelianenko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Emelianenko tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rain appears to be looking for a big counter.
Emelianenko has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Rain is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Emelianenko lands with a kick to the temple. Rain shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rain drops down looking for an ankle pick but Emelianenko pulls his leg out and moves away.
Emelianenko throws a nice looking combination but Rain bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Emelianenko gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Rain.
Emelianenko throws a sloppy head kick and Rain moves out of range easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rain or perhaps it was just good defense by Emelianenko, which made it look bad.
Rain shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Emelianenko but Emelianenko pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Rain looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Emelianenko shoots in looking for a takedown but Rain manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Emelianenko's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Rain jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Emelianenko walks away with a smile on his face. Rain gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rain motions for Emelianenko to come forward. Rain throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Emelianenko lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rain backs up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Emelianenko has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
