PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Herb Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buff Dickens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter comes to the cage accompanied by Intimidation mixtape. Dickens is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Trick Daddy - Shut Up. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Herb Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Buff Dickens!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter just misses with a punch to the body.
Dickens throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A quick step to the side and Hunter tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Hunter moves into the clinch successfully.

Dickens jumps into guard, dragging Hunter to the mat.
Dickens is controlling Hunter's posture.

Dickens working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Hunter has passed into half guard!
Dickens is controlling Hunter's position as best he can from this difficult position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter wants to take a breather but Dickens is having none of it.
Dickens wants to improve his position but Hunter is controlling well.

Hunter definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Hunter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hunter lands a nice shot that snaps Dickens's head back.
Dickens closes the distance and clinches up with Hunter, looking for a takedown. Dickens pushes Hunter against the cage but Hunter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hunter thows a left - swing and a miss!
Hunter rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dickens moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Dickens moves out of range of the body kick from Hunter.
Dickens moves in looking to clinch but Hunter pushes him off.
Buff Dickens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dickens tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hunter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dickens somewhat.
Dickens closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
A looping hook to the body misses from Dickens. Hunter does a little dance to reset his feet.

Hunter throws a hook but Dickens blocks it.
Dickens misses with a hook.
Hunter throws a series of strikes that have Dickens backpedaling.
Hunter fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Dickens.
Dickens scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Hunter throws a series of punches but Dickens moves out of range.
Hunter scores with a nice right hand.
Hunter avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dickens throws a jab when Hunter was well out of range.

Hunter closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hunter throws a punch but it's blocked by Dickens.
Hunter lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Dickens or not.
Hunter throws a head punch that misses.
Hunter lands a body shot.
Dickens is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hunter gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Herb Hunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Buff Dickens.
Hunter tries a knee to the head but Dickens blocks it.
Hunter scores with a shot to the side of Dickens's head.
Dickens lands a shot to the body.
Dickens tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Hunter's elbow.

Dickens blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Dickens tries to throw a body punch but Hunter avoids it by throwing Dickens back against the cage.
Dickens blocks an uppercut.
Dickens is trying to maintain a safe position but Hunter gets an underhook and turns Dickens into the cage.
Dickens blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Dickens trying to stall but Hunter improves his position.
A right handed body shot lands from Hunter.
Dickens can't get the takedown.
Hunter softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Hunter digs a right hand into Dickens's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Dickens's gas tank.
Dickens looks winded!
Hunter misses with a knee to the head.
Hunter lands with a left to the head.
Hunter throws a knee to the head but misses.
Hunter lands a nice uppercut.
Dickens blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Dickens makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

It looks like Buff Dickens has been cut.
Dickens misses with the head strike.
Hunter misses with a body punch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Hunter.

Dickens wants the takedown. Hunter is fighting it off but Dickens persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hunter's guard against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herb Hunter dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Buff Dickens's cut.
That's time! Hunter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Hunter connects with an inside leg kick.
Hunter throws a body shot but no joy.
Dickens uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Hunter has time to react.
Dickens scoring well with a low kick there.
Dickens looks to score with a jab to the body but Hunter is just out of range.
Hunter swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
A nice inside leg kick there by Dickens. That's going to slow Hunter down.

Hunter clinches up against the cage.
Hunter lands a nice knee to the body.
Hunter throws a knee to the head but misses.
Dickens tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hunter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dickens can do to turn this around?
A quick uppercut on the inside from Hunter.

Dickens lands a takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hunter preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Dickens trying to move into half guard but instead Hunter has managed to sweep!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dickens is trying to control the position but Hunter postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hunter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Dickens pulls Hunter in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dickens checks the leg kick nicely there.

Hunter moves into the clinch.
Dickens working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
A nice left hand lands by Dickens.
Dickens lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Hunter backwards.
Hunter dodges an elbow strike from Dickens.
Dickens lands a hook that snaps the head of Hunter backwards.
Dickens blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Hunter misses with a knee to the head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hunter.
Dickens lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Dickens is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hunter can't fight it off and eventually Dickens manages to take the fight to the floor. Hunter looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dickens postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hunter is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dickens, into his guard.

Dickens is pulling down on Hunter's head. It's preventing any offense from Hunter, at least for the moment.

Dickens wants to sweep here but Hunter controlling him for the moment.

Dickens is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hunter defends well.

Dickens is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buff Dickens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hunter, as that shot connected.

Dickens gets a double leg takedown into Hunter's guard.
Hunter looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Hunter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Buff Dickens has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hunter has momentary wrist control but Dickens slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dickens tries to free his leg and advance position but Hunter is retaining full guard.
Dickens postures up in Hunter's guard and throws a big left but Hunter blocks it.

Dickens distracts Hunter with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hunter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hunter gets tackled into the cage by Dickens. Dickens maintains the clinch.
Dickens makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Hunter throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dickens blocks it with crossed arms.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Hunter as Dickens tries to tie him up.

Dickens jumps guard.
Dickens looking for a sweep. Not yet Dickens, not yet.

Dickens is looking for a triangle but Hunter pushes his legs off easily.
Dickens trying to keep a closed guard but Hunter is proving a slippery customer.

Dickens is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Dickens has his hands on Hunter's head, controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A jab from Dickens does it's job there.

Hunter has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Dickens.
Hunter moves out of range of the body kick.
Hunter misses with a hook to the body
and Dickens counters with a one-two to the body.
Herb Hunter is winning the standup battle so far.
Hunter looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Dickens throws a nice head kick!
Hunter lands a front kick.
Herb Hunter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Hunter clinches with his opponent.
Dickens tries to stall but Hunter uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Dickens keeps control of Hunter as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Hunter blocks a body shot from Dickens.

Dickens works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dickens takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dickens keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hunter's head.

Dickens throwing strikes from guard but Hunter blocks nicely.
Dickens wants to control from the top but Hunter keeps moving.

Dickens drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hunter looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hunter looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hunter!

Dickens tries to bench press Hunter off him but Hunter keeps the position.
Dickens tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

And that's the end of the fight!
Buff Dickens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dickens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
