PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Josh Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Corsi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corsi is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Womanizer by Britney Spears. Josh Roberts has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Josh Roberts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Corsi!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Corsi closes the distance and clinches.
Roberts lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Tim Corsi has been cut.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Corsi as Roberts tries to tie him up.
Corsi is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Corsi is working for takedown but Roberts is calmly controlling the position for now.
Corsi tries to pull guard but Roberts won't allow it.
Corsi gets underhooks to prevent Roberts's takedown attempt.
Corsi is pushing Roberts up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Corsi trying to stall but Roberts improves his position.
Roberts tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Roberts changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Corsi fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Roberts bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Corsi wants to get back to his feet.
Roberts remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Roberts wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Corsi, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Corsi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Josh Roberts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Corsi.
Corsi throws a head kick but Roberts moves out of range.
Corsi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Corsi looks gassed!

Roberts gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Roberts wants a takedown but no success here.
Roberts wants to break the clinch but can't.

Roberts tightens his grip and picks Corsi up, before dumping him to the ground. Corsi manages to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corsi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Corsi wants to stand up but Roberts is controlling him.

Roberts drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Roberts jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Corsi is pulling down on Roberts's head. It's preventing any offense from Roberts, at least for the moment.

Corsi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Roberts is controlling him.
Roberts wants to stand but Corsi has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Roberts gets to his feet - Corsi follows without any prompting.

Corsi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Corsi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Corsi throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Corsi has eaten all the pies!

Roberts is trying desperately to improve position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roberts is squirming around, avoiding Corsi's attempts to control the action.
Roberts is in all sorts of trouble here.
Corsi wants to control the pace but Roberts is squirming around nicely.
Roberts working to try and regain half guard.
Corsi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Corsi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Corsi is pressed up against the cage. Roberts has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Corsi down to the mat. Corsi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Roberts has a takedown stuffed.
Tim Corsi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Roberts looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Roberts closes the distance and clinches.

Roberts wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Roberts. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Roberts is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Roberts prevents a takedown attempt there.
Corsi's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Corsi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Roberts pulls his leg out and moves away.

Roberts really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Corsi just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice sprawl there from Corsi as Roberts shoots in.
Corsi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Roberts shoots in for a double leg but Corsi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Roberts gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Corsi is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Corsi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Corsi feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Roberts's calf.

Roberts is looking for a triangle but Corsi pushes his legs off easily.

Roberts is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Corsi is controlling him.

Roberts has his foot on Corsi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Corsi works his way back into a safe position though.

Tim Corsi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Roberts has his takedown stuffed

and Corsi counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Roberts!
Roberts is desperately trying to improve his position but Corsi has a good base and remains in mount.
Roberts wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Corsi lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Corsi gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Corsi is pushing down on Roberts's leg trying to pass to half guard. Roberts is fighting to maintain full guard but Corsi has managed to sneak the leg through.

Roberts tries to roll over but Corsi keeps him under control.
Roberts wants to get back to his feet.
Corsi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roberts does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Corsi landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Corsi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Roberts's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Roberts keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tim Corsi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Corsi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
