Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Masakatsu Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Strife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gomi's entrance music is Lose Yourself. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Masakatsu Gomi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Strife!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strife avoids the body shot from Gomi.
Gomi throws a head kick that misses.
Gomi throws a nice head kick!
Strife slips a straight right by Gomi.
Strife uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gomi.
Gomi uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gomi throws a head kick that misses.
Strife takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Strife with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Strife throws a combination that misses

and Gomi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Strife is looking to control Gomi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Strife avoid being mounted?
Strife gets back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Strife is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Strife is pulling down on Gomi's head to control his posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gomi has gone for a leg lock! Strife slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gomi's guard.
Strife trying to control the position from guard on top but Gomi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Strife trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gomi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Strife advances to half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gomi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gomi is trying to maintain the position but Strife is very close to passing his half guard.
Gomi is looking for a sweep. Strife is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gomi is defended easily by Strife.
Strife slips under a jab.
Strife keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Gomi.
Gomi throws a head kick but Strife moves out of range.
Strife avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gomi lands an overhand right.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Strife slips under a jab from Gomi.
A swing and a miss from Gomi.
A chopping leg kick lands by Strife.
Strife getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Gomi throws a hook to the side of Strife's head but Strife sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Strife missing with a left hand there. Gomi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Strife cracks the inside of Gomi's front leg.
Strife misses with an uppercut.
Strife lands with a thumping leg kick.
Gomi throws a body punch but Strife moves out of range.
Gomi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Strife's waist but Strife gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomi off to one side.
Gomi is breathing heavily.
Gomi takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Strife goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gomi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Strife makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Strife fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Strife lands with an overhand left.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Strife throws a lazy head kick
and Gomi makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Strife lands a high kick!


Gomi is rocked!
Masakatsu Gomi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Strife cracks Gomi with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Gomi tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Strife pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Gomi is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Strife!
