PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Dayne (ranked 3008 p4p, 24977 weight class) and Joaquin Chase (ranked 308 p4p, 436 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Arthur Dayne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joaquin Chase!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dayne circles away from the clinch attempt
and Dayne counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Chase misses with a double jab

and Dayne holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Chase is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Dayne to keep the fight standing.
With the two fighters working up against the ropes, Chase just misses with a elbow thrown towards Dayne's brow.

Dayne has Chase pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dayne pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Chase tumbling to the mat - Dayne dives into Chase's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chase is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Chase bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dayne's guard.


Dayne has his foot on Chase's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chase works his way back into a safe position though.
Chase throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Chase sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dayne's guard.
Dayne is trying is best to control the position here.
Chase prevents Dayne from improving his position.
Dayne keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Dayne regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Chase.

Dayne is pulling down on Chase's head. It's preventing any offense from Chase, at least for the moment.

Dayne is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Dayne has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Dayne has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chase can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dayne controls Chase momentarily but Chase frees himself.

Chase has gone for a leg lock! Dayne slips out almost immediately though and dives into Chase's guard.

Dayne is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dayne wants to control from the top but Chase keeps moving.
Chase throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Dayne trying to control but Chase is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Chase fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dayne throwing a counter right hand but Chase manages to avoid it.
Chase changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dayne tries to avoid it but Chase manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dayne to the ground. Dayne escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Chase is defended easily by Dayne.
Arthur Dayne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joaquin Chase.

A big left from Chase misses.
Dayne attempts a counter takedown but Chase avoids it well and moves away.
Chase moves to clinch but Dayne breaks away

and Dayne counters with a nice double leg into side control. Chase won't be happy with that.
Chase tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dayne wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
A lull in the action here as Dayne stalls from top position.

Dayne moves into full mount!
Chase is trying to escape the mount.
Dayne controlling from mount.
Dayne trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Dayne has hold of Chase's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Chase manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Dayne tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.
Dayne manages to capitalize on a mistake by Chase to take his back!
Dayne controlling well, preventing Chase from escaping the position.
Dayne struggling to keep hold of the position.
Chase tries to break free.
