Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Yaroslav Rurik (ranked 368 p4p, 631 weight class) and Ishmael Egyptian (ranked 31 p4p, 61 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Yaroslav Rurik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 20 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Ishmael Egyptian!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shirou Masuda and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rurik stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
A looping hook to the body misses from Egyptian. Rurik does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rurik tries a head kick but it misses.
Rurik with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Egyptian to score with a decent uppercut.
Egyptian takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
We've been told by Rurik's head coaches at League of Shadows MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Egyptian is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rurik creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Egyptian has Rurik pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Egyptian pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rurik tumbling to the mat - Egyptian dives into Rurik's guard.

My spies in The Nomura Dojo inform me that Egyptian has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Rurik seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Egyptian trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Egyptian drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rurik manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Egyptian has Rurik in his guard.

Egyptian is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rurik wants to stand but Egyptian is controlling his arm.

Well, if Rurik is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Egyptian is trying to control but can't.
Rurik wants to pass to mount but Egyptian is defending the position.
Egyptian is looking for a sweep. Rurik is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rurik is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Egyptian's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Rurik here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Egyptian counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Egyptian throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rurik works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rurik has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Rurik wants to sweep here but Egyptian controlling him for the moment.
Egyptian looking to sit in guard and control but Rurik gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Egyptian is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rurik defends well.

Egyptian isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Rurik stacks Egyptian on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Rurik!
