The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gap closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Neil's guard. Neil really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gap. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Neil looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gap is one step ahead there.
Neil has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gap is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Neil. Neil taking a bit of punishment here - Gap scoring with strikes. Neil is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Gap tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gap has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Gap slows the pace down.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gap has hold of Neil's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Neil seems comfortable defending it but Gap has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Neil is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Neil is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gap couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Derrien Gap! During a confident post fight interview, Derrien Gap thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
