PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Teboho Matekane (ranked 1768 p4p, 1701 weight class) and Archie Evans (ranked 162 p4p, 152 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Archie Evans!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans misses with an uppercut.
Matekane changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Nice jab there from Evans.
Evans bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Matekane's head backwards.
Evans leaves Matekane with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Matekane rushes Evans and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Evans felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Matekane darts in looking for a takedown but Evans gets double underhooks and turns Matekane into the ropes.

Evans is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Evans displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Matekane.

Matekane drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Teboho Matekane has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Matekane gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Evans wants to stand and escape but Matekane is having none of it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Matekane throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Evans works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Archie Evans is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Matekane drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Evans gets the underhooks and prevents it.

With the two fighters working up against the ropes, Matekane just misses with a elbow thrown towards Evans's brow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Archie Evans comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Evans has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Archie Evans was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
