PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sparky Anderson (ranked 940 p4p, 743 weight class) and Masutatsu Oyama (ranked 129 p4p, 103 weight class). Anderson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Pick up man. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 59 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Masutatsu Oyama!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Anderson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Oyama.
Oyama looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Anderson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Oyama swings for the body but Anderson moves out of range.

Anderson closes the distance and clinches.
Oyama is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Anderson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Anderson manages to end up in side control.
Oyama wants to get back to his feet but Anderson is dominant here and he's now got Oyama's back!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anderson is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Oyama knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Oyama for a finish.

Oyama has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Anderson is proving hard to escape from.

Oyama sneaks out the side door and pushes Anderson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Oyama counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Oyama stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Oyama wants to get back to striking at distance but Anderson won't allow it.

Oyama breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Oyama throws out a powerful jab.
Anderson keeps the fight on the outside.
Oyama lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Anderson dodges the punch combination from Oyama.

The fighters circle momentarily. Oyama darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Oh Anderson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Anderson takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Oyama throws a hook but Anderson avoids it easily.

Anderson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Anderson showed some decent athleticism there.

Masutatsu Oyama showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Oyama has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Anderson takes one to the side of the head.
Oyama fails with an attempt to clinch.
Anderson looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Anderson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Oyama manages to avoid it.

Oyama feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Anderson sprawling to the canvas! Anderson rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Oyama finish him?!
Oyama throws a hook but Anderson avoids it easily.
Nice defenses there by Anderson.
Oyama lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Anderson tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Oyama rattles Anderson with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Anderson tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Oyama dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Anderson stiff and motionless on the mat!
