Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Walter Hahn (ranked 2180 p4p, 2035 weight class) and Afonso Mendes (ranked 251 p4p, 229 weight class). Afonso Mendes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Walter Hahn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Afonso Mendes! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hahn as he jumps to the side.
Hahn has Mendes up against the ropes in a clinch.
Mendes tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hahn tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Mendes avoids it. Hahn tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Mendes is trying to pull guard but Hahn turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch. Walter Hahn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Afonso Mendes. Hahn scores a nice knee to the body.
Hahn just leaning against Mendes, taking a breather. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendes is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Hahn gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Hahn keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mendes's head. Mendes trying to control the position.

Mendes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hahn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mendes working a defensive guard here.
Hahn postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Mendes is trying to control the position from the bottom.

 The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Mendes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Hahn tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendes is retaining full guard. Hahn stays in close to Mendes's body and controls the position. Hahn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Hahn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hahn is working Mendes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Mendes has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hahn is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mendes. The referee asks Hahn politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hahn prefers to stall for the moment though. Mendes can't do much from the bottom here. Hahn looks up at the clock and then as Mendes takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hahn smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Hahn wants to control for a moment but Mendes uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hahn looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Hahn slips a nice elbow through Mendes's hands, connecting with Mendes's forehead. Mendes is trying to get back to full guard. Mendes is looking to control Hahn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mendes avoid being mounted? Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hahn in particular looking to stall. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hahn connects with a nice short shot to Mendes's temple. Hahn lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Mendes trying to control but Hahn postures up.
Hahn winds up and cracks Mendes with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Mendes looking for submissions off his back. Hahn is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Hahn working the head and body with strikes. Hahn looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mendes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Hahn lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Hahn is trying to control the action in half guard but Mendes is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hahn controlling the action here.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Hahn slips a nice elbow through Mendes's hands, connecting with Mendes's forehead. Hahn keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Mendes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hahn is working away from the top position though. Hahn prevents Mendes from improving his position. Mendes gets back to full guard.

 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Hahn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Mendes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Hahn is in close to Mendes's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hahn lands a couple of decent looking shots. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hahn with a nice head shot there. Hahn is working Mendes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Afonso Mendes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Walter Hahn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
 Mendes is rocked! Hahn gets to his feet and stands over Mendes, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Mendes felt that one! Hahn unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Mendes from any more punishment!
