Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marco Mo (ranked 1845 p4p, 2185 weight class) and William Ward (ranked 181 p4p, 211 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Marco Mo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, William Ward!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mo throws a poor cross that misses

and Ward counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Ward wants to work for an arm triangle but Mo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ward lands with a punch from half guard.
Ward is trying to control the action in half guard but Mo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mo won't allow Ward to pass to mount.

Ward is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Ward is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mo sees it coming and defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ward is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Ward is landing with some decent strikes but Mo is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Mo blocking the ground and pound.
Mo is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Ward trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Mo is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Ward lands a big elbow.
Ward takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Ward had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mo defends it easily.
Ward trying to control the position.
Ward wants to sweep here but Mo controlling him for the moment.

Ward looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Mo decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ward slips a jab from Mo.
Mo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ward paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ward tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ward swings for the body but Mo moves out of range.
Ward takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Mo lands a jab to the head.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ward is defended easily by Mo.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

William Ward dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Ward waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mo.
Mo fails to land with a series of punches.
Ward throws an off balance right hand
and Mo counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mo lands with an uppercut that bounces Ward off the cage and back into range.
Mo misses with a head kick.
Mo shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Ward tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Mo stuffs the takedown attempt from Ward. Ward gets slowly back to his feet.

A slow jab from Mo misses its intended target.
Ward checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Mo misses with a left hand

and Ward counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Mo is looking to stand back up but Ward counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mo.


Ward seems to be working for a kimura but Mo defends the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ward is looking for a kimura but Mo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ward to get the leverage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ward throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ward moves into full mount! Mo won't be happy about that!
Mo wants to try and get back to his feet.
Ward working the ground and pound effectively.
Ward fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mo avoids a series of strikes thrown by Ward.
Ward controlling the position easily from mount.

Ward goes for an armbar but Mo turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Mo.
Ward has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ward looking for a sweep. Not yet Ward, not yet.
Ward not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ward lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ward tries to free his leg and advance position but Mo is retaining full guard.
Mo keeping moving, preventing Ward from controlling successfully.
Ward stands and throws Mo's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ward wants to control but Mo is keeping him busy.
Ward works to advance to full mount. Mo defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Ward goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mo turns into him and now he's in Ward's guard.
Ward has a closed guard, preventing Mo from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ward wants to sweep but no luck.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

William Ward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Mo takes a swing at Ward's ribcage but misses.
Mo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ward shoots in for a takedown but Mo shows good takedown defense.
Mo seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Mo scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Mo looks to throw the jab but Ward is out of range.

Mo tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Ward manages to circle out of the way.

Marco Mo is winning the standup battle so far.
Mo darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Mo throws a nice outside leg kick.
Ward ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mo moves away.
Ward ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Mo throws a looping overhand right but Ward ducks down to avoid it.
Ward fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Mo on the side of the head.
Ward lands a glancing blow to the side of Mo's head.
Mo throws a big shot that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ward or perhaps it was just good defense by Mo, which made it look bad.
Marco Mo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mo keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ward.
Ward takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Mo has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ward finds it's way round the side to connect with Mo's head.
Mo throws a leg kick which misses Ward's front leg but catches the back leg as Ward tries to avoid it.
Ward loads up on a big right hand but Mo slips the punch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jab, jab by Mo - just one landing.

Ward takes a swing at Mo's ribcage but misses.
Ward slips under a jab.
Ward fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Marco Mo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Ward.
Mo fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Ward checks it well.
Ward drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Mo defends it well.
Mo scores with a jab.

It looks like William Ward has been cut.
A big left from Mo misses.
Ward looks like he wants to counter punch here.
William Ward is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ward pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Mo misses with a body shot.
Mo looks to land a right hand but Ward moved out of range.
Mo misses the body punch

and Ward decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mo's guard.
Ward slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Ward pushing down on Mo's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marco Mo.
I think Ward has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
