Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Smuts (ranked 3196 p4p, 3382 weight class) and Yair Shalit (ranked 68 p4p, 71 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jan Smuts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yair Shalit!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Smuts as Shalit shoots in.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Shalit shoots in for a takedown but Smuts shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Smuts darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Smuts is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Smuts is trying to control the action in half guard but Shalit is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Shalit wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smuts not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Smuts has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smuts prevents Shalit from improving his position.
Smuts passes to full mount!
Smuts has hold of Shalit's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Shalit manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Smuts landing strikes, looking to finish!
Shalit sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Smuts is looking to pass Shalit's guard but actually Shalit recovers to full guard.
Smuts postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Smuts not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Smuts lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Shalit is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smuts loads up on a big left hand. Shalit felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Smuts looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Shalit can't hide his disappointment, as Smuts celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jan Smuts!
