PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dusty Rhodes (ranked 240 p4p, 259 weight class) and Leroy Brewer (ranked 36 p4p, 38 weight class). Rhodes comes to the cage accompanied by Bury My Bones. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Dusty Rhodes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leroy Brewer!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brewer scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Nice jab there from Rhodes.
We've been hearing reports that Rhodes has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Brewer connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Rhodes throws a shot from downtown. Brewer moves away and avoids it.
Brewer with a hook.
Rhodes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Brewer is fending him off so far but Rhodes persists. Nope, Brewer circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice defenses there by Rhodes.
Rhodes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brewer throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Brewer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rhodes was well out of range. Poor timing from Brewer.

Rhodes has Brewer up against the cage in a clinch.
Brewer wants to break free but Rhodes has control.
Brewer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Rhodes lands a right hand that snaps the head of Brewer backwards.
Rhodes wants to take the fight to the mat but Brewer manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Brewer is trying to force a seperation but Rhodes has the dominant position.

Rhodes has clasped his hands together around Brewer's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rhodes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brewer keeps working.
Rhodes throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Rhodes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Brewer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Rhodes takes a little break here. Brewer wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Rhodes trying to control the action but Brewer is working from the bottom.

Rhodes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rhodes grinds an elbow into Brewer's temple.
Brewer felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Rhodes trying to control the position but Brewer is working away.
Rhodes content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Check out the look on Rhodes's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Rhodes wants to control but Brewer is keeping him busy.
Brewer is pushing Rhodes's head away, looking to escape. Rhodes manages to hold on to the position though.

Rhodes looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Rhodes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Brewer, who protects the arm well.
Rhodes tries to score with some ground and pound. Brewer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rhodes has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Brewer is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Rhodes yanks on the arm and Brewer is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Rhodes.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dusty Rhodes!
An out of breath Dusty Rhodes thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
