Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anton Ilmarinen (ranked 315 p4p, 518 weight class) and Reino Ruttu (ranked 39 p4p, 63 weight class). Reino Ruttu has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Anton Ilmarinen's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Anton Ilmarinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Reino Ruttu!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Ilmarinen.
Ruttu avoids the body shot from Ilmarinen.
Ruttu fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Ilmarinen checks it well.
Ilmarinen looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ilmarinen lands a nice hook to Ruttu's body. Ruttu takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Ruttu lands a jab to the head.
Ilmarinen checks a leg kick nicely.
Ilmarinen tries to counter with a takedown but Ruttu is quick to defend against it.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ilmarinen crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ruttu - the referee stops the clock and Ilmarinen gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ruttu. Ilmarinen manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Ilmarinen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ruttu wants to control but Ilmarinen passes easily into half guard.

Ilmarinen is taking a breather. Ruttu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Ruttu is controlling Ilmarinen's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ilmarinen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ruttu throws a hook but Ilmarinen blocks it.
Ruttu gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Ilmarinen.

Ilmarinen moves into range and clinches up with Ruttu.
Ruttu tries to work over Ilmarinen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Ruttu throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Ruttu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ilmarinen throws a right hand that Ruttu ducks under and follows up with a left that Ruttu also avoids with ease.
Ilmarinen punishes Ruttu's body with a nice straight punch.

Ruttu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ilmarinen.
Ruttu was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Ruttu takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

and Ilmarinen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ruttu's guard.
Ruttu is looking to stand back up but Ilmarinen counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Ruttu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Ilmarinen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ruttu wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Ilmarinen manages to pass to side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ruttu can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Ilmarinen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ruttu looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ruttu tries to roll over but Ilmarinen keeps him under control.
Ilmarinen slips a nice elbow through Ruttu's hands, connecting with Ruttu's forehead.
Ilmarinen is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ruttu is trying to maintain the position but Ilmarinen is very close to passing his half guard.
Ilmarinen lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Ruttu on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A jab from Ruttu misses.
Ruttu lands with a thumping leg kick.
Ilmarinen lands a right hook to the body.

Ilmarinen closes the distance and lands a one-two.
A big left from Ruttu misses.
Ruttu displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ilmarinen throws out the jab.

Ilmarinen misses with a few strikes there.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ruttu! But no joy.
Ruttu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ilmarinen.
Ruttu looks to throw the jab but Ilmarinen is out of range.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
