Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Janne Varis!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Westen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Westen prevents Varis from improving his position.

Varis wants to get back to full guard but Westen has mounted him!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Varis slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Varis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Varis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Varis tries to pass to full mount but Westen defends it.

Our spies down at at Banzai Combat Academy LA inform us that Varis has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Varis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Westen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Varis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Westen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Varis lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Varis is looking for a kimura but Westen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Varis to get the leverage.
Westen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Varis is fighting to break Westen's control of his arms but Westen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Varis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Westen is just riding it out for now. Varis eventually gives up the hold.

Janne Varis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Westen tries to close the distance and clinch but Varis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A little feinted left hand from Westen on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Westen misses with a takedown attempt - Varis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Varis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Westen avoids it really well and circles away.
Westen half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Westen shoots in for a takedown but Varis shows good takedown defense.

Varis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Westen wants to pass the guard but Varis is keeping the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
