Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ger McDonnell (ranked 540 p4p, 151 weight class) and Eddie Ryan (ranked 65 p4p, 19 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 27 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Ger McDonnell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 29 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Ryan! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ryan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McDonnell. McDonnell uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ryan. McDonnell stuffs the takedown. Ryan lands an overhand right. Ryan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McDonnell moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Ryan misses with a straight right. McDonnell has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. McDonnell misses with a low kick.
Ryan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches McDonnell napping and manages to drive through into side control! McDonnell tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Ryan easily slips into full mount! McDonnell can't escape the position.
McDonnell tries to hold on but Ryan pushes him away.
Ryan wants to finish this one by submission but McDonnell is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ryan.
 That's one minute gone in the round.
Ryan goes for an armbar but McDonnell turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from McDonnell. McDonnell sitting in guard here, content to control. McDonnell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ryan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. McDonnell works a leg free and moves into half guard. McDonnell performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. McDonnell with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. McDonnell is trying to control the action in half guard but Ryan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. McDonnell is looking to stall here but Ryan recovers full guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. McDonnell pushes down on Ryan's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Ryan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. McDonnell content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Eddie Ryan dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
A head kick by McDonnell misses
and Ryan counters with a takedown into side control. McDonnell holds on to Ryan's head and controls the position momentarily. McDonnell tries to improve position but can't. McDonnell sneaks back into half guard.
Ryan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ryan prevents McDonnell from improving his position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. McDonnell trying to control but Ryan postures up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. McDonnell is looking to improve his position.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ryan is looking for a kimura but McDonnell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ryan to get the leverage. McDonnell is looking for a sweep. Ryan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. McDonnell misses with a few strikes there.
McDonnell cracks Ryan with a right hand to the side of the head. Ryan takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. McDonnell misses with an uppercut. That kick from McDonnell tenderised Ryan's leg. Ryan is trying to keep his angry face on. McDonnell throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. McDonnell misses with a looping left. Ryan connects with a nice looking jab.
Ryan throws a jab but it's blocked by McDonnell.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. McDonnell just misses with a punch to the body.
Ryan shoots in and bounces McDonnell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Ryan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McDonnell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ryan, into his guard.
 We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. McDonnell stays in close to Ryan's body and controls the position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Eddie Ryan will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Ryan checks a leg kick. Ryan takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. McDonnell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ryan bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps McDonnell's head backwards. Ryan shoots in for a takedown but McDonnell shows good takedown defense. McDonnell throws a series of punches but Ryan moves out of range. McDonnell throws a right and a left that Ryan avoids nicely. Ryan drops down looking to force a counter takedown but McDonnell defends it well. Ryan uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before McDonnell has time to react. McDonnell throws a leg kick that is checked
and Ryan counters with a shoot takedown. McDonnell fights it but they end up in guard.
Ryan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McDonnell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ryan has McDonnell in his guard.
 We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McDonnell controlling from the top position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. McDonnell looking to sit in guard and control but Ryan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
 Ryan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ryan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McDonnell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ryan has McDonnell in his guard.

 That's two minutes gone in the round.
McDonnell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McDonnell showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Ryan is looking for a triangle but McDonnell pushes his legs off easily.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. McDonnell showing good wrestling skills to control the position. McDonnell trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Eddie Ryan has got the better of the ground game so far.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ryan is looking for a triangle but McDonnell pushes his legs off easily.
McDonnell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. McDonnell trying to control but Ryan is working from the bottom. Ger McDonnell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Eddie Ryan. I've got Ryan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
