Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kwawi Mumba (ranked 572 p4p, 622 weight class) and Kip Stern (ranked 80 p4p, 89 weight class). Stern has chosen Fight as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Kwawi Mumba has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mumba throws a jab when Stern was well out of range.
Mumba throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mumba rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Stern counters with a nice uppercut.
Mumba misses with a telegraphed body shot
enabling Stern to counter with a crisp jab.
Mumba bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Mumba lands a nice shot to the body.
Mumba looks to land a right hand but Stern moved out of range.
Stern is looking for the big counter here.
Mumba scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Mumba connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Mumba tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Stern was well out of range. Poor timing from Mumba.
Stern doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A slow jab from Mumba misses its intended target.
Stern walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Stern throws a punch but it's blocked by Mumba.
Stern lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Mumba tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mumba tries to pull guard but Stern won't allow it.
Stern lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Mumba backwards.

I was talking to Mumba's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Stern sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mumba's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stern lands with some strikes.
Mumba is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Mumba has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stern can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kip Stern dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Stern slips a jab and a cross from Mumba.
Mumba misses the body punch
and Stern counters with a stiff right hand.
Mumba bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Stern's head backwards.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Stern.
Mumba sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Kwawi Mumba is winning the standup battle so far.
Mumba throws out a powerful jab.
Mumba looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mumba throws a body shot but no joy.
Stern throws the left hand but Mumba avoids the punch easily.
It looked like Mumba wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Stern lands with a nice body kick.

Stern darts in and clinches Mumba up against the cage.
Stern lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Mumba backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stern is looking to control Mumba's arms but Mumba gets an underhook and turns him. Now Stern has his back to the cage.
Stern struggles to land a body shot inside as Mumba controls his hands.
Mumba tries to break the clinch but Stern is controlling the position.
Stern lands a hook that snaps the head of Mumba backwards.

Mumba breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Stern throws a shot from downtown. Mumba moves away and avoids it.
Stern throws a hook to the side of Mumba's head but Mumba sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Mumba throws a jab but it's blocked by Stern.

and Stern counters with a left hand that sends Mumba to the canvas!

It looks like Kwawi Mumba has been cut.

Stern makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Stern pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mumba is keeping the position for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stern loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mumba is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stern is aware though and is defending well.

Mumba has his foot on Stern's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stern works his way back into a safe position though.
