PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Everest Frank (ranked 1898 p4p, 1197 weight class) and Mike Cozad (ranked 109 p4p, 76 weight class). Frank kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Knife Talk x Drake ft. 21 Savage x Project Pat. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Everest Frank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Cozad!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cozad ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Cozad misses with a looping right.
Frank is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Frank takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Frank ducks under a wild hook from Cozad.

Cozad lands a big head kick that sends Frank tumbling to the mat! Cozad takes a step backwards and waves Frank back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Everest Frank has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Frank uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cozad.
Frank moves out of range of the strikes.

Cozad has momentary wrist control but Frank slips an elbow through the middle.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cozad wants to stand up but Frank is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Frank postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Frank looking to sit in guard and control but Cozad gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Frank is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Frank will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cozad stands up and waves to Frank to follow him.

Frank shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cozad manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Cozad pushes Frank off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cozad throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Frank sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Frank makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A head kick misses from Cozad.
Frank slips a jab and a cross from Cozad.
Frank looks for a takedown but Cozad sprawls well.

Frank closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cozad explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Frank chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cozad can pounce on him.

and Frank connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cozad misses with a double jab
enabling Frank to counter with a crisp jab.
Cozad comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Frank chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cozad can pounce on him.
Frank throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice takedown defense from Cozad. No joy for Frank on that attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Cozad dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Everest Frank's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Frank swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nice sprawl there from Cozad as Frank shoots in.
Frank blocks a jab.
Cozad throws an overhand right that lands on Frank's shoulder, as Frank tries to avoid the shot.
Frank fails with the takedown
and Cozad counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cozad throws a jab but it's blocked by Frank.
Frank is looking to counter punch.
Frank shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cozad as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Everest Frank. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Frank counters with a takedown into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frank drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Everest Frank's cut is getting worse.
Frank shoots for a takedown but Cozad saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Frank crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Cozad - the referee stops the clock and Frank gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Cozad. Frank manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Cozad is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Frank has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cozad finds it's way round the side to connect with Frank's head.
Cozad punishes Frank's body with a nice straight punch.
Frank bobbing and weaving nicely... He's ducked under a jab and ducks again but ooooooh! Cozad comes at him with an uppercut from hell! Frank falls to the canvas, unconscious! This one is all over! Oh man, looking at the replay that was right on the button! Frank was out before he hit the floor!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mike Cozad!
