PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Keenwah Granes (ranked 748 p4p, 572 weight class) and Batang Kock (ranked 56 p4p, 40 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Granes might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to 敢不敢. The crowd seem to be enjoying Kock's choice of entrance music: I will axe kick you, and I am not careful.. Keenwah Granes had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Keenwah Granes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Batang Kock!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kock works the jab nicely.
Granes chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Granes lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Granes does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Granes takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Kock scores with a jab to the body.
Kock has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Kock throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Granes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Granes fails with an attempt to clinch.

Granes swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
letting Kock counter with a right hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kock moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Granes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kock.
Granes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kock is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

and Kock cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Granes looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Kock let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Kock punishes Granes's body with a nice straight punch.
Kock checks a low kick from Granes.
Granes connects with a jab.
Kock shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Granes eats them both and turns towards Kock to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Kock scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Granes thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kock looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Kock scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Granes doesn't seem bothered though.

and Kock counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Kock drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Granes takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Granes looks to throw the jab but Kock is out of range.

Granes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kock was well out of range. Poor timing from Granes.
Kock is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Granes rather than just go for the knockout.

Granes fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kock has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Granes seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Kock's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Granes connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Kock scrambles back to his feet.

Kock just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromGranes.
Granes has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kock.
Granes shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Kock scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Kock dips to his left and cracks Granes with an uppercut!
Kock jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kock misses with a body shot.
Keenwah Granes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Granes takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kock is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Granes had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
Granes misses with an uppercut
and Kock counters with a stiff right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Granes fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Kock ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Granes throws a head kick that misses.
Kock is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Granes.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Granes crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kock - the referee stops the clock and Granes gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kock. Granes manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Kock misses with a two punch combination.

Granes closes the distance and clinches.
Granes tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Granes using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Kock has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Granes prevents a body shot from Kock.

Kock escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Granes takes one on the button.
Kock misses with the body kick

and Granes counters by clinching up.
Kock scores with a shoulder strike.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kock is trying to break the clinch but Granes is controlling him.
Kock misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Kock fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Batang Kock dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Granes is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kock throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Granes counters with a nice low kick that buckles Kock's knee momentarily.
Kock has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kock lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Granes tries to score with a low kick but Kock moves his leg out of the way.
Kock let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A nice leg kick from Granes, right into the meat of the thigh.

Granes takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Granes is trying to maintain the position but Kock is very close to passing his half guard.

Kock is trying to control. Granes wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Granes is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Hey Steves Fight Shack, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Kock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Granes defends it well.

Kock seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Granes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kock got a little sloppy there for a moment and Granes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kock has managed to get both his arms back between Granes's legs - danger averted.

Kock uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Granes.

Kock breaks from the clinch.
Kock throws a body punch but Granes moves out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kock dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Granes tries to clinch but Kock is having none of it.
Granes slips a straight right by Kock.
Kock lands a jab to Granes's midsection.
Kock lands with an uppercut that bounces Granes off the cage and back into range.

Granes throws a series of strikes that have Kock backpedaling.
Granes takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Granes misses with a hook. Kock ducked under it nicely.

Granes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kock sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kock's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Batang Kock comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kock winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
