This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 14 losses; Disco Kid! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 38 wins and 21 losses; Xavier Merlin! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Merlin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Kid (0) vs (4) Merlin Kid is being controlled here. Merlin has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at KFA. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Kid tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Merlin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Kid wants to control but Merlin postures up. Merlin controlling the position. Kid is trying to improve his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kid is sneaking out the side here. Kid is persistently looking for the submission but Merlin is defending it well.

Merlin controlling from the full mount.

Merlin is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Merlin engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. It looks like Merlin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Kid wants to sweep here but Merlin controlling him for the moment. Merlin is stalling in the full guard.
Kid escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Merlin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Score +2 for reaching mount: Kid (4) vs (19) Merlin Kid keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Kid is working hard here to advance position. Merlin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Merlin prevents Kid from getting the reversal.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Merlin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Kid tries to lock up and control but Merlin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Merlin controlling his opponent.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Kid is squirming around, avoiding Merlin's attempts to control the action. Merlin is stalling here but it's allowed Kid to get half guard.
Merlin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kid does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Kid won't allow Merlin to pass to mount. Kid is looking to improve his position.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Merlin is thwarting Kid's attempts to control the position. Kid gets full guard. Merlin controls from within his opponent's guard. Merlin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Merlin is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Kid wants to sweep but no luck. Merlin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Merlin trying to control but Kid is working from the bottom. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. And that's the end of the fight! Merlin wins on points by 22 to 4. During a confident post fight interview, Xavier Merlin thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. |
