PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Furioto (ranked 112 p4p, 227 weight class) and Kurt Cobain (ranked 20 p4p, 37 weight class). Furioto comes to the cage accompanied by 韻踏合組合 - . Cobain has chosen Smells Like Teen Spirit as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maximus Furioto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kurt Cobain!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Furioto shoots in for a takedown but Cobain shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cobain looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Furioto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cobain tries to avoid it but Furioto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cobain to the ground. Cobain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cobain! But no joy.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Cobain counters with a right hand to the body.
Furioto shoots in for a takedown but Cobain shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Furioto throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cobain's waist but Cobain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Furioto off to one side.
It seemed like Cobain was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Furioto tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cobain swivels and escapes.
And Cobain responds with a good body kick, but Furioto manages to step out the way in time.

A little jabbing left from Cobain on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Furioto will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Furioto looks for a takedown but Cobain sprawls well.
Cobain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Furioto tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cobain defends well and Furioto ends up having to push Cobain into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cobain! But no joy.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Cobain creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Furioto swings wildly with an uppercut but Cobain uses good head movement to avoid it.
Furioto has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cobain is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Maximus Furioto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Furioto shoots for a double leg takedown but Cobain sprawls well. He's pushed Furioto's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cobain stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cobain wants it to stay on the feet.

Cobain pulls Furioto in close to his closed guard and prevents Furioto from doing any damage or advancing position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cobain tries to land a sweep but no joy.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cobain is on top in guard.

Cobain controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cobain is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cobain forces his way into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Furioto tries to roll over but Cobain keeps him under control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kurt Cobain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Furioto dives in and grabs Cobain's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cobain pushes down on Furioto's head and hops out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cobain is on top in guard.

Cobain slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Cobain has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
