PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karim Johnson (ranked 16 p4p, 228 weight class) and Beau Canada (ranked 1 p4p, 13 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Don't say nuthin'. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Karim Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Beau Canada!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Daniel Bishop and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Canada. Johnson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nice body kick there by Johnson.
Johnson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Johnson throws a sloppy body shot
and Canada counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Canada tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Johnson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Canada throws a big shot that misses.
Johnson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Canada.
Canada connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Johnson's hands.
Johnson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Dr Hatsumi's Clinic in the buildup to the fight.

Canada throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Johnson was covering up waiting for the punch and Canada finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Johnson pushes Canada off and scrambles back to his feet.

Canada throws a hook but Johnson avoids it easily.

Canada drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Johnson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Johnson misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Johnson lands a right hand that snaps the head of Canada backwards.
Canada lands with a left to the head.
Johnson prevents a body shot from Canada.
Canada has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Johnson struggles to land a body shot inside as Canada controls his hands.
Johnson misses with a punch to the body.

A nice right hand lands inside from Johnson.
Canada wants a takedown.
Karim Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Beau Canada.
Canada stalling in the clinch but Johnson improves position.

Johnson lands with a left to the head.
Johnson scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Canada throws a punch but it's blocked by Johnson.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Canada throws a lazy head kick
and Johnson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Canada throws an off balance right hand
and Johnson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Canada looks winded!
Johnson lands a slapping body shot.
Canada on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Johnson works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
We've been informed that Canada has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Canada misses with an uppercut.
Johnson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Canada's head backwards.
Canada rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Johnson counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Canada to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by Johnson!
