Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ali Amir (ranked 807 p4p, 660 weight class) and Daniel Spong (ranked 98 p4p, 82 weight class). Amir comes to the cage accompanied by Mastodon - Gobblers of Dregs. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Amir throws a chopping leg kick but Spong manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Amir steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Spong.
Spong tries for a takedown but Amir sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

We've been hearing good reports from Amir's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Spong is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Amir's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Amir's back!
Spong is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Amir has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Spong is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Spong gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Spong gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Spong apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Amir takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Amir steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Spong.
Spong throws a nice looking combination but Amir bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Amir takes a swing at Spong's ribcage but misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Daniel Spong will probably get the nod.
That's time! Amir's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Spong throws a body punch but Amir moves out of range.
Amir feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Spong drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Spong is putting a hurting on Amir here, landing some big shots from side control.
Spong tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Spong has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Amir can't do much from the bottom here.
Spong is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Amir knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Daniel Spong has got the better of the ground game so far.
