PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Caio Victor (ranked 804 p4p, 424 weight class) and Lynton Miller (ranked 117 p4p, 67 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Miller's choice of entrance music: Tool - Sober. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caio Victor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Lynton Miller!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller tries to land a leg kick but Victor saw it coming and moves away.
Victor throws a jab when Miller was well out of range.
Miller is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Victor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Miller moves away.

Miller drives through with a takedown into guard.
Miller stopping the sweep attempt from Victor.

Victor looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Victor controls Miller momentarily but Miller frees himself.

Miller throws out a leg kick but Victor moves out of range and Miller only half commits.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Victor takes a swing at Miller's ribcage but misses.

Victor tries to counter with a takedown but Miller is quick to defend against it.

Miller looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

It looks like Miller might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Victor lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Victor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miller swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Victor seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Miller is concentrating on defense, preventing Victor from advancing position.

A close round but Lynton Miller will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Miller shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Miller was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Victor tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miller wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Miller connects with a nice short shot to Victor's temple.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Miller working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Miller has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Victor has his foot on Miller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Miller works his way back into a safe position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well Miller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
