The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alexander throws a left and a right that both miss
and Avangyan counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Avangyan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Avangyan postures up in Alexander's guard and throws a big left but Alexander blocks it.
Avangyan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Avangyan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alexander has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Avangyan has managed to get both his arms back between Alexander's legs - danger averted.
Avangyan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
