PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Meridius (ranked 2466 p4p, 2011 weight class) and Haruki Johnson (ranked 318 p4p, 271 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maximus Meridius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Haruki Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Richard Clark and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Johnson connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Meridius needs to keep his hands up - Johnson had a free shot at his head there.

It looks like Maximus Meridius has been cut.
Meridius definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Meridius uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Johnson.
Johnson fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Meridius has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Meridius takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Meridius on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

A relieved looking Maximus Meridius thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
