PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ralph Long (ranked 3442 p4p, 3152 weight class) and Peoples Champion (ranked 410 p4p, 380 weight class). Champion has chosen Aegukka as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ralph Long!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Peoples Champion!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and Andrew Berry.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Champion blocks a head kick by Long.
Long tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Long throws a leg kick but Champion sees it coming and moves out of range.
Long tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Champion cracks Long with an open hand slap.
Long throws a right and a left that Champion avoids nicely.
No joy there for Champion, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Long fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Champion scores with a hook.
Long fails in his attempt to clinch.
Long tries to close the distance and clinch but Champion swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A head kick misses from Long.
Long throws a series of punches but Champion moves out of range.
Champion misses with a wild combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Champion displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Long.

Champion clinches.

Champion pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Long dodges the punch combination from Champion.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Champion bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Champion lands a head shot.

Long is rocked!
Champion throws a right hand that Long ducks under and follows up with a left that Long also avoids with ease.
Oh Long is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Champion takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Champion moves into the clinch.
Long tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Long seems to have got his legs back now.
Long tries a knee to the head but Champion blocks it.
Champion softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Champion's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Champion has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Champion cracks Long with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Long tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Champion pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Long is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Peoples Champion!
In his post fight interview, Peoples Champion started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
