PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Reinaldo Gracie (ranked 910 p4p, 1835 weight class) and Clin Cartwright (ranked 109 p4p, 206 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Apaga Mas NĂŁo Bate. The crowd seem to be enjoying Cartwright's choice of entrance music: Cirice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Reinaldo Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Clin Cartwright!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cartwright misses with a lunging right hand

and Gracie counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Cartwright!
Cartwright is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Gracie throws an elbow but Cartwright slips to the side and avoids it well.
Gracie tries to move into full mount but can't pass Cartwright's legs.
Cartwright seems a little lost for a moment, as Gracie dominates the positioning.

We've been hearing that Gracie has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Cartwright wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Reinaldo Gracie will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Cartwright is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

and Gracie counters with a single leg into guard. Cartwright didn't expect that.

The strikes coming from Gracie are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gracie seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Clin Cartwright is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Gracie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cartwright's guard.

Gracie seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cartwright for as long as he can get away with.

Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cartwright working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gracie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gracie manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
