Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Smart (ranked 275 p4p, 1008 weight class) and David McDonald (ranked 38 p4p, 139 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Peter Smart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David McDonald!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonald pivots, looking for a leg kick but Smart is out of range and McDonald settles back down.
Smart throws out a loose jab but McDonald uses good head movement to avoid it.
Smart wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Smart lunges at McDonald with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by McDonald's hand.
McDonald thows a leg kick but Smart checks it

and Smart counters with a nice double leg into guard.

McDonald looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

McDonald had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smart defends it easily.

McDonald working for a triangle but Smart defends it easily.

McDonald looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Smart passes into half guard.
Smart wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDonald keeps working.

McDonald wants to control but Smart is keeping busy.

Smart lands with a punch from half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smart connects with a nice short shot to McDonald's temple.
Smart is controlling the pace.
McDonald is looking for a sweep. Smart is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

McDonald slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Smart makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McDonald throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

McDonald has his foot on Smart's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smart works his way back into a safe position though.

Smart looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

McDonald working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smart doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smart manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smart is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Smart wants to control from the top but McDonald keeps moving.
Smart keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of McDonald's head.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now McDonald is on top in guard.

My spies in Ludus Magnus inform me that McDonald has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Smart is trying to hold McDonald in close to prevent damage but McDonald has managed to pass into half guard.

McDonald is trying to control the action in half guard but Smart is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Smart tries to get to full guard but McDonald has control of the leg.

McDonald is working for a kimura but Smart is defending it quite comfortably.
Smart is trying to maintain the position but McDonald is very close to passing his half guard.
Smart is controlling McDonald's trapped leg to prevent McDonald from advancing to side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smart is looking to control McDonald's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smart avoid being mounted?
Smart wants to improve his position but McDonald is controlling well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Smart dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

McDonald tries a head kick but it misses.
McDonald attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
McDonald wants to land a leg kick but Smart is out of range.
McDonald shoots in looking for a takedown. Smart tries to sprawl out of it but McDonald keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smart manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Smart clinches.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Smart.
McDonald misses with a punch to the body.
McDonald's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Smart is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McDonald can do to turn this around?
McDonald tries to work over Smart's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smart gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
McDonald working a defensive guard but Smart manages to pass into side control anyway.
Smart trying to control the position but McDonald is working away.
McDonald manages to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smart working the head and body with strikes.
Smart working McDonald over with strikes.

McDonald actively working from the bottom here.
McDonald taking some punishment here, with Smart in his half guard.
Smart looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McDonald with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

McDonald is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smart pulls his head out easily.
Smart slips a nice elbow through McDonald's hands, connecting with McDonald's forehead.

McDonald looking for submissions off his back.
Smart lands with a punch from half guard.
Nice strikes from Smart there.

McDonald is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smart lands a big elbow - McDonald is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Smart!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Peter Smart!
An out of breath Peter Smart thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
David McDonald spoke after the fight, saying 'Fall down seven times, get up eight.'.
