Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Howard (ranked 407 p4p, 1323 weight class) and Hao Sawamura (ranked 61 p4p, 205 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Howard!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hao Sawamura!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Roberts and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard's corner calls for a 1-2. Howard obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Howard shoots and misses
and Sawamura counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Howard takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Sawamura throws a jab when Howard was well out of range.
Howard shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sawamura keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Howard. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sawamura is looking to slow Howard down with leg kicks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Howard counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Howard has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Sawamura is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Howard is nestled in close to Sawamura, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

It looks like Hao Sawamura has been cut.
Howard is looking to take a break and control but Sawamura is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Howard throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Howard uses his free foot to push down on Sawamura's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sawamura.
Howard wants to take Sawamura's back here but Sawamura is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Howard is looking for a choke. Sawamura gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Sawamura manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
Sawamura won't allow Howard to sweep him here.

Howard wants to sweep but no luck.

Sawamura avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Howard looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Sawamura has picked Howard up and slammed him! Howard can't keep hold of the triangle and Sawamura manages to pass to side control!
Howard is looking for a sweep.
Howard sneaks back into half guard.
Howard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Howard is trying to get back to full guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dean Howard will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Hao Sawamura's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sawamura looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Howard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Howard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Howard shoots in for a takedown but Sawamura shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sawamura steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Sawamura is looking to score with low kicks.
Howard fails to land the takedown.
Sawamura is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Howard with a body shot.
Howard has his takedown stuffed
and Sawamura connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Howard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters circle momentarily. Sawamura darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Sawamura tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Sawamura lands a nice looking body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Howard tries for a takedown but Sawamura circles away easily
and Sawamura counters with a low kick, right behind Howard 's knee.

Oooooh!!! Sawamura has knocked Howard down with a huge combo! Sawamura steps away and waves a wobbly Howard back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Dean Howard has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Howard bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sawamura scores with a decent looking hook.
Sawamura lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Howard falls backwards - clearly groggy! Sawamura dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hao Sawamura!
Hao Sawamura is the new middleweight champion!
A relieved looking Hao Sawamura thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
