PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Georges St Pierre (ranked 5820 p4p, 5611 weight class) and Tayaen Porfirigo (ranked 591 p4p, 579 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think St Pierre might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Face the Pain. Tayaen Porfirigo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Georges St Pierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tayaen Porfirigo!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

St Pierre darts in and clinches Porfirigo up against the cage.

Porfirigo is trying to trip St Pierre. He has hold of a leg but St Pierre is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Porfirigo persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Porfirigo is stalling in the full guard.
Porfirigo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
St Pierre keeping full guard, as Porfirigo tries to pass.
St Pierre looking to hit a scissor sweep but Porfirigo is one step ahead there.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

St Pierre has closed the distance and engaged Porfirigo in a clinch.
Porfirigo managing to block the knees to the body from St Pierre.
St Pierre prevents the takedown attempt.

St Pierre gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Porfirigo regains guard.
St Pierre loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
St Pierre wants to get up but he can't break Porfirigo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
St Pierre makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

St Pierre throws an elbow that misses. Porfirigo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in St Pierre's guard. Nice move by Porfirigo!

Porfirigo tries to free his leg and advance position but St Pierre is retaining full guard.
Porfirigo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Porfirigo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Porfirigo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
St Pierre seems a little lost for a moment, as Porfirigo dominates the positioning.
St Pierre tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Porfirigo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Porfirigo is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down St Pierre's shoulder. That is not cool.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Porfirigo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, St Pierre rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Porfirigo's guard! Nice work there by St Pierre!

Porfirigo is looking for a triangle but St Pierre pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Porfirigo has control of St Pierre's left arm, preventing St Pierre from doing any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tayaen Porfirigo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Porfirigo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Georges St Pierre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Porfirigo is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Porfirigo is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but St Pierre is defending well.
St Pierre lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Porfirigo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics St Pierre uses from the top position.

St Pierre decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Porfirigo, up you get!

St Pierre turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
St Pierre knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Porfirigo on the ground.
St Pierre passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Porfirigo!
The referee warns Porfirigo that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

St Pierre jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Porfirigo is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Porfirigo and St Pierre has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

St Pierre tries for a kimura but Porfirigo is defending well.
Porfirigo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Porfirigo manages to get to full guard.
St Pierre has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Porfirigo got a little sloppy there for a moment and St Pierre has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Porfirigo has managed to get both his arms back between St Pierre's legs - danger averted.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Porfirigo's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
St Pierre is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Porfirigo has taken his back.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
St Pierre trying to control the action but Porfirigo just sinks the hooks in.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on St Pierre's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Porfirigo controls the action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tayaen Porfirigo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Porfirigo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Tayaen Porfirigo tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
Georges St Pierre was interviewed post fight and said 'I'm training all the time. My goal is perfection. But I will never reach perfection'.
