McCoy paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
McCoy connects with a body shot.
McCoy just misses with a punch to the body.
Mendes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McCoy circles away quickly and effectively.
Mendes displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as McCoy throws out the jab.
The fighters circling - Mendes throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And McCoy tries to counter it with a takedown but Mendes pushes his down on his head and steps out.

McCoy changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

McCoy jabs Mendes to the body, keeping him at a distance.
McCoy feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Mendess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Mendes shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Paulo Mendes's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mendes or perhaps it was just good defense by McCoy, which made it look bad.

Willy McCoy has got the better of the ground game so far.
McCoy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mendes connects with a couple of short punches.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

McCoy throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mendes stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and McCoy makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Paulo Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCoy scores with a sloppy right hand. Mendes should have avoided that one.
Jeez, Paulo Mendes's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
McCoy dips to his left and cracks Mendes with an uppercut!

and McCoy counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Oh Mendes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mendes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McCoy tries to avoid it but Mendes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McCoy to the ground. McCoy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paulo Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mendes looks up at the clock. Bad move! McCoy lands a right hand from hell, dropping Mendes. McCoy pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
