The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cartwright feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tapu Koko (ranked 121 p4p, 68 weight class) and John Mongrel (ranked 24 p4p, 13 weight class). Koko comes into the arena with Aotearoa blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mongrel has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Koko finds it's way round the side to connect with Mongrel's head.
It looks like John Mongrel has been cut.
Mongrel misses with a hook to the body
and Koko counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Mongrel to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by Koko!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Tapu Koko!
After the fight, Tapu Koko was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
