Zangief kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The wolf's hunt by-WOLFSLAIR. The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zangief getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Zangief sizes up Van Damme with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Van Damme plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Zangief bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Van Damme's head backwards.
Zangief has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Zangief there as he acknowledges the shot.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Van Damme tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Zangief was well out of range. Poor timing from Van Damme.
Van Damme tries to land a leg kick but Zangief saw it coming and moves away.
Zangief has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Zangief feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Van Damme wants to get back to his feet but Zangief is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Zangief's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gamzatov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Anderson sprawls well initially but Gamzatov persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Gamzatov passes the guard and advances to mount!
Anderson is desperately trying to improve his position but Gamzatov has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gamzatov with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
We've been hearing good reports from Gamzatov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Gamzatov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Anderson manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
You can see the frustration on Anderson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

An out of breath Gamzat Gamzatov thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.

Tarly closes the distance and clinches up with Rollins, looking for a takedown. Tarly pushes Rollins against the cage but Rollins circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kyoji Kubota.
