Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suarez on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Suarez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rua fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rua throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Suarez.
Rua throws out a powerful jab.

Rua decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rua wants to take a breather but Suarez is having none of it.
Rua thows a huge punch but Suarez dodges it nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Suarez can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rua looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rua is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Suarez reverses the position - he's now on top in Rua's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Suarez lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Rua wants to clinch.
Rua throws a nice head kick!
Suarez connects with a jab.
Suarez looks to land a combination but Rua avoids it well.

Suarez wants to break the clinch but can't.
Suarez lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Rua backwards.
Rua looking to throw knees to the head but Suarez is blocking nicely.
Rua throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Suarez blocks it with crossed arms.

A jab from Suarez finds it's way through Rua's defenses.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Suarez misses with a hook. Rua ducked under it nicely.
Rua tries to clinch there but Suarez circles away.
Suarez misses with an uppercut. Rua saw that one coming.

Suarez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Rua takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Suarez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rua shoots in for a takedown but Suarez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Suarez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Suarez lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

It looks like Mauricio Rua has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Suarez throws a looping overhand right but Rua ducks down to avoid it.
Suarez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Suarez misses with a wild body shot.
Rua dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Suarez. That did some damage!
Rua lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Rua works Suarez's body with a nice hook.
Suarez stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Rua shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Suarez as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Rua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suarez misses with an uppercut. Rua saw that one coming.
Suarez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Rua closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rua lands in his opponent's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rua misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rua pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
