The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taalasmaa tries to clinch but Modric is having none of it.

Taalasmaa goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Modric ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Taalasmaa moves away.
Taalasmaa looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Modric avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
We've been told by Modric's head coaches at Araba Fenice that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Modric pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Modric tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Taalasmaa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Taalasmaa tries to score with some ground and pound. Modric controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Taalasmaa wants to control but Modric is keeping him busy.
Modric is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Taalasmaa looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Modric avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Taalasmaa.

Modric moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Taalasmaa throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Modric works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Modric knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Taalasmaa on the ground.

Modric throws a series of strikes that have Taalasmaa backpedaling.

Modric on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Modric uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Taalasmaa.

Taalasmaa throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Modric tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Taalasmaa is in Modric's guard.
Taalasmaa makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Taalasmaa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Modric swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Taalasmaa won't allow Modric to get back to his feet.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Taalasmaa's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Taalasmaa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Modric's head.

Modric working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Taalasmaa.
Taalasmaa looking to sit in guard and control but Modric gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Taalasmaa is looking to cinch up a triangle. Modric throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Taalasmaa's body to avoid the submission. Taalasmaa has instead reached around Modric's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Taalasmaa arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Buttersnaps darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Buttersnaps sizes up Ra with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Buttersnaps slips under a jab from Ra.
Buttersnaps connects with a body shot that sends Ra's belly button to the back.

Buttersnaps drives through and clinches with Ra against the cage.

Ra breaks from the clinch.
Ra lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Buttersnaps backs up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Buttersnaps tries to clinch up but Ra circles away and keeps his distance.
Ra uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Buttersnaps.
and Buttersnaps counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Ra! He's just covering up as Buttersnaps starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ghee Buttersnaps is the new lightweight champion!
After the fight, Ghee Buttersnaps was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

Norks throws a leg kick which misses Laine's front leg but catches the back leg as Laine tries to avoid it.
Norks scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
We've been informed that Norks has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Norks just misses with a punch to the body.
Norks is looking to score with low kicks.
Norks waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Laine.
Norks slips under a jab from Laine.
Norks throws a jab when Laine was well out of range.

Norks clinches up against the cage.
Laine tries to throw a body punch but Norks avoids it by throwing Laine back against the cage.
Norks misses with a knee to the head.
A bit of stalling here from Norks.
Laine wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Laine is trying to push Norks away but Norks has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Laine tries to break free but Norks pushes him back against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Norks throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Laine blocks it with crossed arms.
Laine has had enough of the clinch but Norks keeps him there for the moment.
Norks lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Laine is trying to force a seperation but Norks has the dominant position.
Norks lands a hook that snaps the head of Laine backwards.
Nice elbow from Norks.

Laine breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Norks sends Laine crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Norks is motioning to the referee to let Laine up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Laine is rocked!
Norks closes the distance and lands a brutal uppercut that knocks Laine out! We're looking at the replay now - he was out before he hit the floor!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Alfie Norks! Alfie Norks retains his heavyweight title!
