The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King tries to work over shogun's front leg with a kick but shogun checks it.
King misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
shogun keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from King.
Jacob King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fight stays on the outside here - shogun looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
shogun connects with a high kick.
A combination from shogun does no damage.
King throws an uppercut from half a mile away. shogun sees it coming and avoids it easily.
King throws a low kick, looking for shogun's leg but shogun calmly moves out of range.
Oooh a lovely combination from King sends shogun down but not out. King dives into side control looking to finish.

King throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
King throws a push kick but shogun slaps the foot to one side.

shogun drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if King can do anything to dispel that myth.
King is pushing shogun's head away, looking to escape. shogun manages to hold on to the position though.

shogun decides to stand up, so the ref orders King to his feet.
shogun misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

King throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and shogun counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by shogun.
King has shogun pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. shogun manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

King lands a takedown into guard.
King prevents shogun from getting back to his feet.
shogun is breathing heavily.

King looks to land a combination. shogun sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

King drops shogun with a nice combination! King dives into shogun's guard, looking to finish!
King is looking to work some ground and pound but shogun has wrist control.

King gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
shogun ducks straight into an uppercut from King and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - shogun maanges to regain guard straight away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and King jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
King controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as King accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

shogun is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst King is controlling him.
King showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

King decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
shogun ducks under a wild hook from King.
shogun tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but King paws at him with a jab and circles away.
shogun shoots in for a double leg but King sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
shogun misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
King cracks shogun with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob King dominated that round.

King lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. shogun is looking to close the distance but King sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! shogun crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope shogun is OK because that was naaaaaasty!

Brawler Jr postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Brel is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Brawler Jr, into his guard.
Brel has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Brawler Jr is proving hard to escape from.

Tate closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Luutch tries to land knees in the clinch but Tate avoids the damage to the body.
Luutch is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Tate gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Tate using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Luutch has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Luutch is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Luutch letting Tate take a breather here.

Tate lands a big knee from the Thai clinch and Luutch goes down hard! The ref takes a good look at him but he's still defending himself. Tate in side control.

Luutch is rocked!

It looks like Larry Luutch has been cut.
Tate wants to stand but Luutch has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Luutch is still in real trouble! Can Tate finish him?
Tate would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Luutch seems to have recovered his senses.

Luutch kicks Tate off and gets to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Luutch tries to break the clinch but Tate is controlling the position.
Tate landing knees to the head.
Tate lands a left hand that snaps the head of Luutch backwards.
A left hand lands to the body for Tate.
Luutch tries to pull guard but Tate holds him up against the cage and eventually Luutch drops back down to his feet.
Tate lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Luutch tries to land knees in the clinch but Tate avoids the damage to the body.

Tate has cage pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Luutch is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a bit one sneaks through from Tate - that's hurt Luutch badly! Oh, another knee lands and Luutch is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Luutch doesn't seem to be complaining.

Carwin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Green pinned against the cage. Green gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A jab from Green does it's job there.
Green goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Carwin gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Hart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hart's entrance music is Bang Your Head. A fine choice. Maynard comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Roy Jones - Can't Be Stopped kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Max Maynard!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hart looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Hart avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Maynard lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hart!
Hart manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Hart tries to roll over but Maynard keeps him under control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hart not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Maynard has gone for a leg lock! Hart slips out almost immediately though and dives into Maynard's guard.
Hart keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Maynard's head.

Hart is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Maynard is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Maynard moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Hart stands up over Maynard, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Maynard wants to sweep but no luck.
Hart works over Maynard with some ground and pound from guard.

Maynard has his foot on Hart's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hart works his way back into a safe position though.

Maynard is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hart won't allow Maynard to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bret Hart will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Hart counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Hart thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Maynard looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hart working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Maynard's head.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hart accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hart wants to control from the top but Maynard keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

and Hart decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Maynard's guard.
Maynard wants to sweep but no luck.

Maynard escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hart gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Maynard tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hart trying to control the position from guard on top but Maynard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Maynard isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hart stacks Maynard on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hart!
Hart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maynard keeps working.
Hart is putting a hurting on Maynard here, landing some big shots from side control.

Hart is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maynard has escaped the position, nice work there.
Maynard prevents Hart from moving into mount.
Maynard manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hart's best efforts.
Hart is stalling here. Maynard is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Hart seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Maynard has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Hart flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Hart has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Maynard. Oh but Hart has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Maynard goes limp - he's gone! Hart jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Bret Hart!
