The Future of MMA

MMA is one of the fastest growing sports across the planet, and with that comes ever increasing competition.  With so many companies vying for top position and only a limited number of PPV companies it is becoming ever more important that companies do what they can to stand out.  To understand the future of MMA we have to begin by looking into the past.

Fighting, punch ups, tear ups or whatever you would like to call it as been a hobby for ordinary people since the days of the Roman Empire.  Originally invented in Sparta by the Lacedaemonians due to the complete absence of lawn bowl facilities, it eventually grew so popular that it filled stadiums across Italy.  In later times the pioneers of football hooliganism, the Barbarians, were the first to introduce international fighting, and did so purely for sport, that it truly wasn't until the middle ages that it died out for a short period.

Akhmed Dudayev and his Journey Back to the Top!

Akhmed was born in Grozny during the first Battle of Grozny. His father, a Chechen separatist fled the country with Akhmed in 1996 amid tensions beginning to rise in the region. They settled in New York where Mohammed, Akhmed's father; trained Akhmed in Muay Thai and Sambo Wrestling. Akhmed excelled in Muay-Thai. He eventually began his MMA career at 18 where he TKO'd Micheal Riffaldy at a local QFC show in 2 rounds, eventually becoming WCF, and BFC Lightweight Champions. Having a historic and memorable reign over the title in both organizations and even making it into the Hall of Fame into one of them. As of recent he has fallen into a skid and jumped from managers, but he's seemed to have found a manager that wants to see his career spark back up in Dillo The Manager. Akhmed returned for the first time in Feburary with a 56 second TKO over Micah Hawk (14-11) at HFC 121. His first fight since October of 2021 and his first win since May of 2021. Saturnia Has Arrived

A new bookmakers has entered the MMA arena.  Saturnia, is the first to focus solely on MMA events in the UK.  Named after a Roman festival that was the only time when every man was permitted to gamble, it somehow seems fitting that Saturnia will once again provide ordinary people with a way to bet on their favourite modern day gladiators.  Focused on the casual gambler, Saturnia is attempting to cater for a niche market.

To celebrate their opening, Saturnia has already published odds on two UK events - ICE 13 and Rise 49.  With more plans in the works in the coming weeks it will be interesting to see how this tiny start up grows.  In the meantime we can only wish them luck, and be glad we finally have a bookmakers in London that supports our growing sport, MMA.
