It is that time of the year and the GAMMA fighter of the year award is coming up. With just a few weeks left, we can already see who the main candidates for the awards are.
GAMMA uses a "point system" for deciding awards, we do not rely on people's opinions or a voting comittee. The point system was created over a long process and i think it is the fairest possible. Here is how the point system works:
+4 points for a win,
+2 point for a draw,
+1 point for a loss,
+8 point if the fight was a title fight or super fight (between other orgs),
+1 point for fight of the night award.
-In the case there is a draw, we take into consideration total fights in GAMMA during the year (fewer the better)
-In the case of a draw again we take into consideration finishes.
This year, to save time, i only ranked fighters who had at least 10 wins and a minimum of 4 title fights. Anything below that, have no chance in winning the award. So based on that criteria, here are the main candidates:
It seems that mathematically that the top 2 are already decided, that being Ivan Petrov (386159) and Hawk Fleximario (381495). Hawk also happened to be last years's winner, so that will push his legacy ratings high up the list.
3rd place is closely contended still. Currently Patrick Matthew (376831) holds 3rd, however Patrick lost his title shot last weekend, so 4th and 5th placed fighters Jimmy Nguyen (395020), Kurt Zweihander (380144), Bill River (394428) all have good chances, as they are also current title holders.
