Box controlling the position well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Malhoon goes for a double leg but Box avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Box continues to drive forward.
Malhoon sets himself, and Box steps forward looking for the clinch! Malhoon avoids it this time.
Malhoon dives in and grabs Box's left leg, looking for a takedown. Box pushes down on Malhoon's head and hops out.
Box was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Horrible takedown attempt by Malhoon or perhaps it was just good defense by Box, which made it look bad.

Umbuku has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as McVitie is landing a low percentage of strikes.
McVitie keeps the fight on the outside.
An attempted straight right counter from McVitie misses the target.
McVitie lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.#CUT#
It looks like Harley Umbuku has been cut.
Umbuku tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McVitie swivels and escapes.
Nice straight punches there by McVitie. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of McVitie.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Umbuku fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
McVitie pounces like a tiger and cracks Umbuku with a vicious hook! Umbuku is down but not out! McVitie follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Monstre tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Myres swivels and escapes.
Myres slips under a jab.
Myres smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Left hook, right uppercut from Myres. #CUT2#
It looks like Le Monstre has been cut.
Sloppy strikes from Myres. Those never looked like landing.
Monstre closes the distance and clinches up with Myres, looking for a takedown. Monstre pushes Myres against the cage but Myres circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A punch combination from Monstre misses.
As Monstre backs off Myres throws a huge counter combo but Monstre manages to avoid it all.
Myres lands with an overhand left.
Monstre tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Monstre takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Monstre looks to clinch
and Myres counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Monstre to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by Myres!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). James Myres!
James Myres was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.

Wosiecki gives Biggs's pecker the obligatory post submission twist and this one is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall over! Are you kidding me! That is world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. That guy is my hero!

Umbuku misses with a takedown attempt - Laston sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Laston is looking to counter punch.
Laston definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Umbuku tries to clinch but Laston moves out of range.
Umbuku closes the distance and clinches up with Laston, looking for a takedown. Umbuku pushes Laston against the cage but Laston circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Laston went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Umbuku slips a jab from Laston.
Laston really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Umbuku throws a hook to the side of Laston's head but Laston sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Laston rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Umbuku moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Laston has cracked Umbuku with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Laston lands another huge swinging hook and Umbuku tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Umbuku, before Laston can land any more shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jon Laston!
Jon Laston is the new middleweight champion!
After the fight, Jon Laston was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Shaffer sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Savage is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
