Velez wants the takedown. Flowers is fighting it off but Velez persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Flowers's guard against the cage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Velez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Flowers's waist but Flowers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Velez off to one side.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Velez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Flowers tries to avoid it but Velez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Flowers to the ground. Flowers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Velez is still on wobbly legs! Can Flowers finish him?
Velez looks winded!
Flowers scores with a punch to the head.

Velez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Flowers but Flowers pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Flowers feints and as Velez raises his hands in defense, Flowers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Flowers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Velez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Flowers has managed to get both his arms back between Velez's legs - danger averted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Flowers bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Velez's head backwards.

Flowers circles away from the clinch attempt.
Flowers connects with a looping right hand.
Flowers connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Velez shoots in looking for a takedown but Flowers manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Flowers changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Flowers moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Velez goes for a double leg but Flowers avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Flowers continues to drive forward.
Flowers feints a jab promting Velez to slip. Flowers then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Velez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Flowers fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Velez looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Flowers is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Velez ducks right into an uppercut from Flowers.
Flowers goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Flowers catches Velez with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Flowers stuffs the takedown attempt from Velez. Velez gets slowly back to his feet.

and Flowers counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Flowers stuns Velez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Flowers!
Velez has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A jab from Flowers does it's job there.
Flowers cracks Velez with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Velez tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Flowers pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Velez is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
