Gusev misses with an uppercut. Karlson saw that one coming. Karlson leaves Gusev with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gusev staying out of range there. A big left from Gusev misses. Our spies down at at Canucks Combat Club inform us that Karlson has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Gusev not doing a lot at the moment. No, Runner has escaped the position, nice work there. Gusev working the ground and pound but Runner is defending the strikes. Runner tries to improve position but can't. Gusev has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Runner is trying to control Gusev's posture but Gusev avoids it. Gusev cracks Runner with a big right hand but Runner just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
