In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Nathanial Huerta! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Nick Peterson! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Huerta is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Huerta fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Peterson tries to counter with a clinch but Huerta shakes him off and moves away. Huerta fails with a takedown attempt.#CL2# Peterson rushes Huerta and presses him up against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#TD2# Peterson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Peterson manages to end up in side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Huerta (0) vs (4) Peterson The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Huerta is trying to get back to half guard. Huerta manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Huerta eventually gives up the hold. #T1# Huerta is keen to just control but Peterson is a slippery customer.#SUB# Huerta is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Peterson defends it well. Peterson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Huerta. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.#SUB# Huerta is looking for a kimura but Peterson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Huerta to get the leverage. #SUB# Huerta is trying to work for a kimura but Peterson is defending well.

Huerta wants to control from the top but Sakuraba keeps moving. #REF3# The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.#T3# Huerta tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sakuraba swivels and escapes. Huerta misses with a takedown enabling Sakuraba to counter with a crisp jab. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Huerta is defended easily by Sakuraba. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathanial Huerta. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sakuraba lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Huerta fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Huerta takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Sakuraba connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Huerta shoots and misses and Sakuraba counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.#T4# Sakuraba connects with a good right hand that stumbles Huerta. Huerta circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Huerta moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.#ROC2#Huerta is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Huerta misses with a left hand and Sakuraba scores with a counter punch that sends Huerta to the canvas! Sakuraba smells blood - he's punishing Huerta with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Huerta has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Taisei Sakuraba! A relieved looking Taisei Sakuraba thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
