Mcknight shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Makhachev's guard.
Makhachev is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.#SUB2#
Makhachev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Makhachev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mcknight doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mcknight manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mcknight lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Makhachev quite badly. Makhachev pulls Mcknight in close trying to recover. Mcknight postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Makhachev on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Makhachev doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Deshawn Mcknight!
A very excited looking Deshawn Mcknight rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed. |

Akawi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Makhachev, pushing him back against the cage.#TD2#
Makhachev pulls guard effortlessly. #SUB2#
Makhachev is looking to cinch up a triangle. Akawi throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Makhachev's body to avoid the submission. Makhachev has instead reached around Akawi's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Makhachev arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
