Salter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jameson, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Salter has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Jameson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Salter yanks on the arm and Jameson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Salter.

Crawford throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jameson was covering up waiting for the punch and Crawford finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crawford content to stall in guard here.
Jameson wants to improve his position but instead Crawford has moved into half guard.

Crawford shoots in for a takedown but Jameson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zachary Crawford. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Crawford takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Jameson is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Crawford had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Jameson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith tries to counter with a takedown but Jameson is quick to defend against it.
Smith throws a big shot that misses.
Jameson scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Jameson scores with a sloppy right hand. Smith should have avoided that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Despite the aggression on Jameson's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Smith looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
