PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ichiro Suzuki (ranked 5496 p4p, 236 weight class) and Kreepee Krawlee (ranked 1478 p4p, 78 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ichiro Suzuki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kreepee Krawlee!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Francis DeMontford and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suzuki misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Krawlee lands with a good body shot.

Suzuki looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Krawlee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Krawlee lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Krawlee throwing strikes but missing.
Krawlee stands and throws Suzuki's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Krawlee tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Krawlee has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Suzuki can't do much from the bottom here.

Suzuki is looking to reverse the position.
Krawlee looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Krawlee is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Suzuki knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Suzuki tries to escape but Krawlee is in control.
Suzuki tries to bench press Krawlee off him but Krawlee keeps the position.

Krawlee thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Suzuki can't do much from the bottom here.
Suzuki tries to improve position but can't.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Krawlee is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Suzuki has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Suzuki tries to bench press Krawlee off him but Krawlee keeps the position.

Krawlee goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Suzuki has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Krawlee but great work by Suzuki.
Krawlee tries to strike but it doesn't land.
You can see the frustration on Krawlee's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Krawlee is not content to let Suzuki control the position.
Krawlee regains half guard.

Suzuki is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Krawlee defends it well.
Suzuki tries to pass the half guard into mount. Krawlee knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Krawlee wants to sweep but Suzuki has passed to side control!
Suzuki wants to take a breather but Krawlee manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Suzuki.

Krawlee is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Suzuki trying to control the position from guard on top but Krawlee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Suzuki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Krawlee is keeping the position for now.

Suzuki won't allow Krawlee to sweep him here.
Suzuki forces his way into half guard.
Krawlee throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Krawlee wants to control but Suzuki is keeping busy.

Suzuki decides to stand and escape the position.
Suzuki will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Suzuki.
Krawlee connects with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kreepee Krawlee will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Krawlee throws a nice looking combination but Suzuki bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Krawlee lands a jab to Suzuki's midsection.
Suzuki looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Krawlee lands a nice shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Krawlee throws a body punch but Suzuki moves out of range.
Suzuki feinted with a counter takedown.
Suzuki takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Suzuki takes a jab right on the kisser.

and Krawlee counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Ichiro Suzuki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A swing and a miss from Krawlee.
Krawlee dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Suzuki misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ichiro Suzuki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suzuki misses with a low kick.
A little jabbing left from Krawlee on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Suzuki fails with a takedown attempt.
Krawlee appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Suzuki takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Krawlee misses with an uppercut.
Suzuki half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Suzuki takes a swing at Krawlee's ribcage but misses.
Krawlee swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Suzuki.
Suzuki takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Krawlee throws a body punch but Suzuki moves out of range.
Krawlee stuffs the takedown.
Suzuki shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Krawlee as he avoids it easily.
Krawlee misses with a body shot.
Krawlee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Krawlee connects with a good right hand that stumbles Suzuki. Suzuki circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Krawlee does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Krawlee keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A little jabbing left from Krawlee on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Krawlee lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Krawlee will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Suzuki tries to counter with a takedown but Krawlee is quick to defend against it.
Kreepee Krawlee seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Suzuki fails with a takedown attempt.
Suzuki shoots in and drives through. Krawlee sprawls well.
Krawlee displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Suzuki.
Suzuki tries to move into range but Krawlee moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Krawlee cracks a nice hook into Suzuki's ribs.
Krawlee misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Suzuki.
Suzuki on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Krawlee lands a nice shot to the body.
Suzuki gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Krawlee connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Suzuki takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Suzuki shoots for a takedown but Krawlee saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Krawlee! But no joy.
Krawlee jabs Suzuki right on the nose. Suzuki blinks but takes it well.
Suzuki misses with a takedown
enabling Krawlee to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kreepee Krawlee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Suzuki tries to move into range but Krawlee moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Suzuki closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Krawlee to the mat! Krawlee manages to get full guard.

Krawlee is looking for a triangle but Suzuki pushes his legs off easily.
Krawlee is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Suzuki wants to control from the top but Krawlee keeps moving.

Suzuki has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Krawlee looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Suzuki avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Krawlee is on top in guard.

Suzuki looking for a sweep. Not yet Suzuki, not yet.
Ichiro Suzuki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Krawlee has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Suzuki to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Krawlee is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Suzuki pulls down on the head and he's put Krawlee to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ichiro Suzuki!
After winning the bout, Ichiro Suzuki thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
